Pick your park by Extra Magic Hour

Walt Disney World For Families 101

Tip 2: Pick your park by Extra Magic Hour

Many visitors to Walt Disney World want to sample all four theme parks (and maybe even the water parks, too.) A key question is: which park do we visit today?

Your deliberations should factor in Extra Magic Hour: on certain mornings, one of the four theme parks — Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Epcot, or Animal Kingdom– opens early for Disney Resort guests only. Even if you aren’t a Disney Resort guest, Extra Magic Hour affects the traffic flow at the parks for everyone.

If you’re a Disney Resort guest, you should either rush to that park like a racehorse out of the gate, and get there in time to enjoy that early Extra Magic Hour. Or you should avoid that park for most of the day.

If you’re not a Disney Resort guest, you’re best to avoid the Extra Magic Hour theme park for that morning, at least. The park will be extra crowded, and you’ll be better picking an alternative park.

Note: Starting January 2005, Extra Magic Hours have changed: one park a day will now either open early OR stay open three more hours in the evening. Here’s a convenient schedule at AllEarsNet.
